New Castle County Police have arrested a man and charged him with assault, endangering the welfare of a child and related offences after he attacked his pregnant, 22-year old girlfriend.

Police say that 32-year old James Davis III got into an argument with is girlfriend at the Fieldcrest Apartment Complex On Peachtree Street late Friday evening.  He originally left the apartment only to return a short time later and attack his sleeping girlfriend who had an 8-month old child by her side.  He allegedly punched and kicked her.  He went to grab a baseball bat and made a gesture towards her, as if to strike her.

When authorities arrived, they found Davis on the back porch of the house.  The woman was inside.  She had injuries to her face.  She was transported to a local hospital where she was admitted for observation.  Her unborn child was not harmed.

Davis did not make bail and is currently being held at the Howard Young Correctional Institute.
