Fox29 Gets Results For Logan E.S. Students Threatened By Utility Pole

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

PECO crews were expected to be outside Logan elementary school Monday night, replacing a dangerous streetlight pole after a report by FOX29.

The light pole- cracked near the base and leaning dangerously to one side- stands just outside the school at 17th and Lindley.  It's attached by a wire, to a taller utility pole just down the block. But limbs from a tree in between the poles are resting on the wire, making the situation even more unstable.

Four hundred students, kindergarten through 6th grade, attend Logan, and the new school year is set to begin September 7th.

Principal Chaunika Sanders told us she called PECO, the Fire department- even 911- to get the leaning pole replaced, without success.

"You know, this thing is going to fall and someone will be seriously hurt!" she told us.

Then she called Fox29.

We called PECO and they sent a crew out to the scene within a few hours.

The crew determined that the pole- while not imminently dangerous- was in bad shape, and because of its proximity to the school, would be replaced immediately.

"I'm grateful for your assistance in helping us to make sure that schools are safe for the opening for our children," Principal Sanders said.
