Body Found Near Scene Of Officer's Disappearance

Posted: Updated:
NORTH WILDWOOD, N.J. -

Officials are working to identify a body spotted off the Jersey Shore on Sunday in the same area where a Middle Township police officer disappeared last Monday.

The U.S. Coast Guard confirms the body of a man was found floating in the ocean about 10 miles off the coast of Cape May late Sunday afternoon.

The body of that man is now the Cape May County Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy and identification.

So far, there is no confirmation that it's the body of Patrolman Jason Sill of the Middle Township Police Dept., but the body was found in the vicinity of where Sill disappeared.

The husband, father and avid fisherman went missing last Monday after he his boat was found adrift about a half mile off the coast of Wildwood. He left the dock on his way fishing.

When his 23-foot fishing boat was found, it was empty with the key in the ignition. Days of searching turned up no results.

We are awaiting word from New Jersey State Police on the identity of the man.

We tried to contact Sill's family, which was gathered at his home. They gave no comment and asked for privacy.

FOX 29's Chris O'Connell was live in North Wildwood with the latest details.
