WARREN, Mich. (MyFox Detroit) -

WARNING: Details of the accident are graphic.

Warren Police notified family of the death of 51-year-old Andrew Macielak on Tuesday.  He was riding his bicycle near 14 Mile and Ryan at 8:30 p.m. Monday when he was struck by a motorist.

Macielak died on the scene.  The force of the impact was so powerful it knocked him out of his clothes and severed both his legs.

The suspected driver, a 47-year-old man, fled the scene, weaving through traffic before blowing a tire at a nearby 7-Eleven.  He then made a run for it, but was quickly arrested.  Police say alcohol was a factor.

Police only identified Macielak once his sister reported him missing Tuesday morning.  She said her brother, who was special needs, lived with his elderly mother and loved to ride his bicycle and collect cans on the ground.

The suspect will be formally charged on Wednesday.
