DETROIT (WJBK) -
A U.S. Navy frigate is in Detroit now through Sept. 10 to mark the 200th anniversary of the War of 1812.
War ships, including an exact replica of the Brig Niagara, are returning to the Detroit River for the Navy's Commemoration of the Bicentennial of the War of 1812 and Detroit Navy Week.
Michigan was a key area of conflict in the war, with U.S. and British land and naval forces clashing over control of what now is Canada.
More than one million people are expected to visit and view these ships to celebrate and learn more about American history and the role Detroit played in this significant battle. For more information on public tours and times, please visit www.1812Detroit.com.
