Man Has Been Waiting Months For New Wheelchair

Posted: Updated:

FOX 29 is working to get results for local man who's lived life in a wheelchair for more than 20 years.

Barry Kimble's chair broke down several months ago. He says his healthcare company told him American Mobility would replace it.

Kimble says the medical supplies company has done nothing but given him the run around.

They know, he says, because he got this now broken-down wheelchair from the same company.

But Kimble says that didn't stop them from asking for documents proving he still suffers from spastic paraplegia, a degenerative neurological disorder he was diagnosed with 20 years ago.

He breaks in tears thinking about the precious time he's losing with his adopted kids.

"They're growing – they're growing, and I'm losing time because I can't go anyplace," Kimble said. "I can't do things that a parent would want to do with their kids."

This 52-year-old Kensington man and his wife say they're not looking for any handouts. All they want is the medical supply company to act with urgency so life won't continue to pass Kimble by.

Kimble says he finally got a phone call from a company saying they're coming out next week to measure him for an electric wheel chair.

But he says he's not holding his breath. He's heard empty promises before.

FOX 29's Omari Fleming has more details in this video report, and we'll let you know what happens.
