A party store owner on Detroit's
west side defended his store during a break-in, shooting three of the
suspects. One was killed and two are in
critical condition. There was a fourth
suspect who is unharmed.
The owner was sleeping in his store, The Right Way Express
Party Store, when he heard the alarm go off in the middle of the night. People were breaking in so the 51-year-old
armed himself with a gun.
The suspect who was skilled was in his twenties. The two men in critical condition are
teenagers. The fourth unharmed suspect is in police custody.
We were told sleeping in the store is common for owners in Detroit. They say the crime is so bad that living in
their stores is the only way to protect their livelihood.
Homicide detectives are questioning the store owner. Prosecutors will decide if he will face
charges.
