Doylestown First Friday Canceled For Good

Posted: Updated:
DOYLESTOWN, Pa. -

First Friday in Doylestown use to be full of life and booming with business. Ryan Nawn would bring his daughter Leslie Noelle.

"She loves the music. She comes around, she jumps, and plays. She gets to sing and dance," said Nawn.

It's been going on for eight years. Residents got to enjoy sponsored events that made downtown come alive even after the summer season.

Michelle Frankle said, "It's just fun. They have the rock wall and the fire trucks come out."

But this week, organizers canceled the event for good. They say not enough businesses are paying the fee to participate and the borough struggled to pay police.

"It seemed the overtime had built up a little higher this year than previous years," said Jill Kahlenberg, marketing manager for the event. Some business owners are glad it's over though. They weren't making money and say the town became a hang out.

Timothy Wylie of Nat's Pizza said, "Too many kids were getting dropped off. They were unruly and just running on the streets doing what they want."
