PHILADELPHIA - Philadelphia police shot a man in the head after the suspect allegedly pointed the gun at an officer early this morning in Hunting Park.
Police from the 25th District responded to a call around 4:15 Sunday morning of a robbery on the 100 block of West Clearfield Street.
When police arrived, they encountered a 52-year-old man who said he had been robbed at gunpoint by two suspects who then fled in a white Buick Century with Pennsylvania tags.
A pursuit ensued on Whitaker Avenue after another officer saw a car matching the description. The suspects attempted to make a turn near Hunting Park Avenue and North 9th Street, but stopped the car on a grassy area.
The driver, identified as Edwin Rodriguez, exited the car and fled on foot while the passenger got out of the car and pointed a revolver at a uniformed officer.
The officer discharged his weapon striking Daniel Rubio, the passenger, in the head. Police say a .38 caliber revolver was found on scene.
Another officer engaged in a foot pursuit after Rodriguez. Rodriguez was apprehended and both men were identified by the robbery victim as the same suspects.
Rubio was transported to Albert Einstein Hospital in critical condition. He faces charges on robbery and assault on a police officer.

It feels like summer out there. We're expecting milder temperatures than yesterday: highs in the mid 80s. Just like summer, it'll be humid, with a chance of a few spotty showers during the day.
This pattern stays in place until Thursday, when strong thunderstorms usher in cooler air for the holiday weekend.
