Fatal Crash Stalls Traffic On Southbound NJ Turnpike

Posted: Updated:

All lanes have now reopened on the southbound side of the New Jersey Turnpike after a fatal accident Tuesday morning.

The southbound turnpike was closed for hours between Jamesburg (Exit 8a) in Middlesex County and Hightstown (Exit 8) in Mercer County due to the earlier accident, which involved a truck fire.

At times the delay reached up to 9 miles long, and there was some gaper delay on the northbound side. Motorists were advised to avoid the area by using Route 1 as an alternate.

All lanes were reported to be open again by 8:30 a.m.
