PHILADELPHIA -

Typically, drivers see a little relief at the pumps around this time of the year, but AAA says gas prices are anything but typical in 2012.

According to AAA, gas prices in the region have increased while temperatures in the area have decreased.

AAA says several factors play a role in the abnormal trend this year, including Hurricane Isaac, which forced oil refineries in the Gulf of Mexico to temporarily shut down. The shutdowns are now being felt at the pumps.

Other factors, such as the upgrade of two Midwest refineries, are also playing a role. AAA says upgrades require partial shutdowns.

"AAA expects prices at the pump will begin to decline midway through September and continue for the last few months of the year as demand decreases and the switch to less expensive winter-blended gasoline begins," Jenny M. Robinson, AAA's Mid-Atlantic Manager of Public and Government Affairs, said in a statement.

You can track the price of gas in your area with AAA's Fuel Price Finder.
