PHILADELPHIA -

Tears flowed down Rosalie Ferrante's face as she spoke about the hit and run accident that left her 72-year-old grandmother hospitalized in critical, but stable condition.

"She's the greatest person. She's helped me out all my life," Ferrante said. "She helped my mom as a single mom her whole life growing up."

Family members say Rosalie Trinsey was leaving the Wellington Bingo Hall off Frankford Avenue Saturday night around 9:30 p.m. As she crossed the street at Englewood, she was struck by what witnesses say was a 1997 or '98 black Nissan Maxima.

"She said she looked both ways before she crossed and didn't see anything," Ferrante explained. "By the time she got to the last lane crossing the street, a car hit her."

Two good Samaritan's raced to the retired IRS worker's side and comforted her until police and an ambulance arrived. Trinsey, who suffers from chronic arthritis in her knees, suffered a fractured leg and pelvis.

The grandmother of nine remains in the intensive care unit.

"If anybody knows anything about what happened, please come forward to let them know," Ferrante said.

Police are searching through surveillance video from some local taverns and a police camera at nearby Cottman Avenue looking for pictures of the car that struck Trinsey.

"To the person who did do it, I mean they don't understand how bad they've hurt my grandmother," she added.

Clutching the blanket that was used to cover her grandmother after the accident, Ferrante had one request for the hit and run driver.

"To the person who did do it, please come forward give yourself in."

Police hope to release surveillance video or a picture of the car being sought by investigators.

The hit and run driver fled south on Frankford and then right onto Wellington, westbound. Anyone with information is asked to call the Accident Investigation Division.

Trinsey will have to undergo months of rehabilitation after she's released from the hospital.
