Phillies Pull 1 Game Closer In Wildcard Race

PHILADELPHIA -

The Phillies are back at .500 for the first time since June with a record of 71-71 after picking up their sixth straight win Tuesday night.

They will go for the sweep over Miami on Wednesday afternoon at Citizens Bank Park.

The key to Tuesday night's game turned out to be in the bottom of the sixth inning. Phillies shortstop Jimmy Rollins hit what appeared to be an easy popup behind home plate, but the Marlins' catcher couldn't hold on.

J-Roll would make the Marlins pay on the next pitch, hitting his team-leading 18th homerun of the season to put the Phils up 8-3.

They would eventually hold on for the 9-7 win.

The San Diego Padres helped the Phillies out for the second straight night, knocking off the St. Louis Cardinals by a score of 6-4.

That allowed the Phillies to pick up another game in the National League Wildcard standings.

A look at the wildcard standings Wednesday morning shows the Phillies are now only four games behind St. Louis.

The Dodgers and Pirates also lost, so the Phils picked up ground on both of those teams, as well.

One team to watch is the Milwaukee Brewers, who are red hot right now and have also moved to within four games of the wildcard.
