Police Shoot Armed Robbery Suspect

Posted: Updated:

Philadelphia Police opened fire on a gunman they say robbed a man in Frankford overnight.

Two officers say they were stopped by a man on the street around 3:00 Sunday morning, claiming he was robbed of $30 by a man he knew.

A short time later those officers saw a man matching the description running down the 1600 block of Granite Street. They cut him off with their police cruiser and got out to confront him. That's when, police say, the gunman pointed a 9mm Kel Tech handgun at them.

The two officers shot at the suspected robber, hitting him in the arm. He was taken to Temple University Hospital where he was treated and released into police custody.

None of the officers were hurt in this confrontation.
