PHILADELPHIA -
The Historical Society of Pennsylvania is putting six original drafts and copies of the Constitution of the United States on display in honor of the document's 225th anniversary.
The historical society will put the copies and drafts on display for five hours on Tuesday. The Constitution was officially adopted on Sept. 17, 1787, replacing the Articles of Confederation.
Among the items on display is 1 of 11 original printings remaining.
Historical society President Kim Sajet tells The Philadelphia Inquirer (http://bit.ly/PJfpRt ) the drafts and copies are only displayed on special occasions. They're usually locked in a vault at the society's building.
A number of Philadelphia's other historical sites are hosting events for the anniversary, including the National Constitution Center.
The Constitution Center's Kerry Sautner joined "Good Day" live to discuss the slate of events.
Admission is free all day, and activities run non-stop from the moment the center opens. Those events included a popular reading of the Preamble to the Constitution at 8:45 a.m. on the front lawn. A large floral pop up display is also planned.
Constitution Day was established in 2004 celebrating the day it was signed, Sept. 17, 1787, not the day it became our new government. The first time the public got to read the proposed new law of the land was in Sept. 19. It was not official until 1789.
Ben Franklin was the oldest delegate at 81 to sign the document.
James Madison is considered the Father of the Constitution. He's one of the only two delegates who went on to become president.
