PHILADELPHIA -

Officials of the Philadelphia History Museum offered a sneak peek of the total interior renovation and newly designed building Tuesday, just days before the building opens up to the public.

The museum renovation includes new building systems, redesigned galleries and a newly equipped and controlled environment.

Visitors will have the opportunity to view eight newly renovated galleries and four new exhibitions that were installed to complement two galleries opened earlier this year.

"A great deal of energy, time and resource went into renovating this historic 1826 building, and handsomely designed galleries to showcase this museum's outstanding collection of art, artifacts and historical objects that comprise of Philadelphia's material culture," Charles Croce, the museum's executive director and CEO said in a statement.

One exhibit features artifacts that span more than 300 years of the city's history, while another examines how Philadelphians have pictured themselves from the 17th through the 21st centuries.

The museum has scheduled an opening weekend for Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. for the public to see the exhibitions for free.
