STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. (MyFox Detroit) -

A Sterling Heights middle school was the target of a threat. The suspect is a 14-year-old boy. Police said the former student is now facing charges for something he allegedly posted on Facebook.

"With all the school shootings we've had across the country, we can't take the chance of not investigating and not charging somebody," said Sterling Heights Police Lieutenant Kevin Reese.

Reese and his fellow officers arrested the 14-year-old boy Friday morning at his father's home in Royal Oak and confiscated his phone and a computer after he allegedly posted a threat Thursday on Facebook against his former school.

The actual threat has since been taken down from his Facebook page, but police told us it said he was coming back to Jeannette Junior High School and everybody was going to die.

"It scared the girl that read it enough to contact her mom, who contacted us," Reese said.

A student spotted the threat on Facebook. Police said the suspect is now charged with using the Internet to commit a crime

and making a terrorist threat, a very serious charge.

"The terrorist threat is a 20 year felony," said Reese. "They have to realize that their actions have consequences."

The teen isn't the only one in trouble. Police said four students actually liked his status on Facebook and the school is dealing with them.

District officials said they sent a letter to parents on Friday alerting them to the threat, though some parents said they never received any information from the school.

Glen Koons, whose son attends Jeannette Junior High, said the incident is a good reminder for parents to talk to their kids about social media and to check their accounts on Facebook and Twitter.

"That's why I go on there and monitor to make sure that they're not doing something that they shouldn't," he told us.

"You just want to make sure that all the kids are safe, and they shouldn't have to worry about something like that going to school."

As for the teen, he is being held without bond at the Macomb County Youth Home, and police said he was startled to learn he was in so much trouble.

"He was very cooperative, very apologetic for what he did," said Reese. "Law enforcement in the world we live in today, we're going to take any threat to any school seriously."
