Pregnancy test vending machine in Minnesota (Credit: MyFox Twin Cities)
SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (MyFox Detroit) -
An upscale nightspot in Minnesota is sparking headlines and controversy, but is it a valuable convenience for female customers, as the bar claims, or an insulting stunt?
The bar has a vending machine that sells early pregnancy tests for $3.00. It's a concept so bizarre that more than one woman we spoke with actually said what is an EPT?
"I'm not appalled, but sort of wondering the reason behind it," said one woman.
The bar claims it's helping to prevent drinking during pregnancy, but not everyone is so sure.
Here are some of the reactions we got.
"Pregnancy tests should be free anyway, to be honest. I don't know about at a bar necessarily because it's like if somebody sees you going to a vending machine to get a pregnancy test... it's just like what are you going to think?"
"It's super offensive considering that America doesn't really care about women to begin with, otherwise Planned Parenthood wouldn't have issues."
"I think if you're old enough to drink, you should be old enough to be a little bit more responsible about something like that, and if you think you could be pregnant, you shouldn't be drinking, period."
"It would be like finding condoms being sold or tampons. I mean, if they want to make E.P.T. tests available at a bar, that's okay."
The bar says the early pregnancy tests are selling.
"Who cares if there's a vending machine? We've got too many other things to worry about. That's the least of our problems," one woman remarked.
