Witnesses Help Woman During Attempted Robbery At Wawa

WILMINGTON, Del. -

The Wawa here at the intersection of Foulk and Wilson in Wilmington, Delaware is always busy.

That's why customers are shocked that someone tried to rob a woman in the parking lot Monday morning just after 7 a.m.

"I work right up the street. That's shocking. I would never have thought that," said one patron.

"It's frightening, disturbing, happened so early in the morning. Usually there are a lot people here. I'm surprised someone would be that bold," said another customer.

Delaware state police say a man tried to snatch a purse from a 45-year-old woman as she walked to her car. They struggled, and he covered her mouth while trying to get the bag off her shoulder.

Several witnesses came to her rescue, and the man jumped in his vehicle and drove off.

The woman wasn't seriously hurt.

Now, police are looking for the man who was driving a beige or gold minivan with a Delaware registration. They have surveillance video and are hoping the public may be able to help.

In the meantime, they warn customers to be on alert.
