Do Not Say Cheese! Jersey DMV Bans Smiling On License Pictures

Posted: Updated:

If you live in New Jersey, you are no longer allowed to smile when you have your picture taken for your driver's license.

That's right!  No smiling.  No need to say cheese! Just serious faces wanted.

Due to the new face-recognition software, smiling could confuse the computer.  Pennsylvania and Delaware also have this software in place, but there is no ban on smiling in those states.

The software is meant to catch  the bad guys.  For example, if a new photo matches an old one that carries a different name, a red flag is raised and the investigators step in.

The moral of this story?  Look into the camera and keep a straight face!
