"I didn't think that anybody would be so cruel," said Judith Gormley. She is shocked that someone would shoot a harmless cat with a pellet gun and leave it for dead.
"It was Princess, one of my ferals and she was shot twice." She's talking about one of the stray cats she cares for in her backyard on Wessex Lane in the northeast.
An X-ray from the vet is disturbing. It shows two pellets lodged near the spine of the cat's lifeless body. Judith says this isn't the first one of her cats that's been killed.
"A week ago there was a dead kitten in the yard. There was a puncture wound to the face,"she said. Judith says her cats are always outside but don't bother anyone. She cant understand why someone would want them dead.
"I think people think of cats as rodents. There's a lot of haters who don't understand about the animals." She filed a police report and also plans to report it to the Pennsylvania SPCA.
"What I would hope would happen is the person who did this gets caught. I doubt that is going to happen so I can only rely on karma which will get them," said Judith.
A sergeant at the 8th Police District said they are forwarding the case to Northeast Detectives. They also plan to increase patrols in the neighborhood where it happened while they investigate
