Parkway Light Show Raises Concern For Environmentalists

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

There is a beautiful new light show lighting up the Ben Franklin Parkway.

But not everyone is happy about it.

The show comes to Philadelphia thanks to artist Rafael Lozano-Hemmer. It features spotlights that move based on what people say into an app.

But some are complaining the show is harmful to the environment. Their main issue is the show creates light pollution.

Advocates are also concerned the lights are harmful to birds.

But the artist says he's heard the complaints and made changes.

"I am also a father, I have 3 little kids and they are all environmentalists. So, if I kill a single bird, I will not be let back into the home," he said.

The show will be running for the next three weeks, every night, from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.
