MARLTON, N.J. -
It was quite a scene all morning outside the Apple Store in Marlton.
Lots and lots of people were lined up around the corner to be the first to get their hands on the iPhone 5, Apple's latest iteration of the hit smartphone.
Some camped out. Others just got in line in the wee hours of Friday morning to wait patiently.
This phone is supposed to be the best model yet, and those who were waiting told us they were so excited to buy it.
But the competition between Apple and Google is now really heating up.
Tech gadget viewers are criticizing the mapping software on the new iPhone. They say it doesn't give directions for public transportation and can even get confused when navigating users.
Apple says the mapping program is a key software change in the iPhone 5. The new software started reaching existing iPhone owners Thursday. It's part of an update to the iOS operating system.
And the iPhone launch has become a worldwide phenomenon.
People down under were the first to get their hands on the newest iPhone! About 600 people lined up around the block outside an Apple Store in Australia.
The customers are limited to buying a maximum of two phones.
Most of the people say they are already hooked on Apple products and couldn't wait to get their hands on the iPhone 5.
Apple fans in Singapore also wait in line for hours overnight to be the first to buy the new smartphone.
One customer there said Apple's products are superior to similar products the company's competitors have been launching. So they didn't waste any time rushing to the store to get one.
FOX 29's Steve Keeley spent the morning outside the Marlton, N.J., Apple Store and got reactions before and after the doors opened. He reported that Friday's lines were perhaps the longest he's seen while covering an iPhone launch.
