After 6 Surgeries, Delran H.S. Athlete Takes Field For First Time

DELRAN, N.J. -

A Camden County high school soccer player is putting his cleats back on after scoring a major victory off the field.

Delran High School senior John Verzi is class president and a member of the National Honor Society. But he says there's one thing he's really missing in high school and that's his favorite sport, soccer.

Verzi has been sidelined with knee injuries. He's undergone six surgeries and three times a doctor has had to reconstruct his knee.

Still, he's never given up.

On Friday night, Verzi finally got his chance to play for his high school in a road game against Pennsauken.

Delran ended up winning the game, 7-2 and Verzi even scored a goal.
