A mother has died and her child was injured during a shooting in Southwest Philadelphia Tuesday afternoon.

Police say the shooting happened on the 7300 block of Theodore Street.

Fox 29 has learned the mother was 31-years-old and the child, a girl, is 5-years-old. The child was taken to Children's Hospital of Pennsylvania and is listed in stable condition.

Police say the mother was waiting to pick up a man she knew. As she was waiting in the car for him, several shots were fired.

According to police, the woman put the car in reverse and slammed into a retaining wall. Police say there were about 30 pieces of ballistic evidence and bags of heroin by the car.
