All Clear Given After Old City Office Building Hazmat Call

Posted: Updated:

Police and fire crews responded to the scene of a hazardous materials call early Wednesday morning in Philadelphia's Old City section.

The situation unfolded at the Wells Fargo building at Fourth and Market streets.

The situation began shortly before 5 a.m. when a white, powder-like substance was discovered on the lower levels of the building.

FOX 29's Steve Keeley reported that some workers were already inside the building and were apparently told to stay where they are. No one else was being permitted to go inside except emergency responders suiting up in hazmat gear around 6 a.m.

By 6:30 a.m., responders were saying the substance posed no danger.

Fourth Street was closed between Arch and Market streets as crews investigated.
