Fighting back tears Nancy Vroman relived the horror of the Saturday night fire in Pottstown that damaged the Yorkshire Apartments.
She escaped with trusty her flashlight to lead the way through the smoke.
"When I opened the door it was dark so I went back and got the flashlight and one of the fire guys came and said come on you gotta get out. I said I'm coming! I'm coming."
"Flames were shooting out the window, " said resident George Heller. "There was a lot of smoke. A lot of black smoke."
According to maintenance crews..the fire started in the kitchen of a second floor unit, reportedly it was an electrical fire.
26-people were displaced by the fire.
George Heller helped pull some of his neighbors to safety.
"The fire alarms went off and the guy next to me is partially blind. I helped him out and we started helping others."
Fortunately no one died in the fire.
But one person was taken to Pottstown Hospital.
"I love living out of a garbage bag," one resident said carrying a bag full of clothes out of his apartment.
For now no one's allowed to stay in the apartment. We're told they could be allowed back in sometime next week.
Nancy says she's just thankful she and all of her neighbors made it out alive.
"I constantly pray and thank God. "It could have been a lot worse. People could have been really, really hurt."
