School Given All Clear After Health Scare

Posted: Updated:

The Council Rock South High School football team was given the all clear to play Monday night after a school wide health scare.  School officials tell Fox 29 that 7 players had confirmed cases of impetigo, a highly contagious skin rash.

The entire school was cleaned and sanitized over the weekend including the cafeteria, locker rooms and football equipment.  The team was given the all clear Monday to play their game against Pennsbury High School that was canceled on Friday.

"They took care of it, they cleaned everything up closed the weight room and wrestling room for a day and cleaned that up" said senior Matt Norce.

Nearly 20 players who had skin rashes were tested for the infection after several players came down with symptoms last week.

Some parents say the incidents have been a teaching moment.

"It's a lesson in hygiene. You have showers, I'm sure the kids were showering. Equipment it's dirty and sweaty and has to be sanitized" said Rich Brunetti whose son escaped any infection.

For some students football was a rare Monday night treat. However, there were some consequences.

"It's a little weird. Teachers didn't take it easy on us. We still have all of our homework" said Norce.

School officials tell us there is one player who has not been cleared to play. However no new cases were reported since last week.
