NEWARK, Del. -

Police in New Castle County say they have arrested a 24-year-old woman after she left her baby buckled up inside of a car.

Officers were called to the 300 block of Glasgow Drive in the Glasgow Court Trailer Park in Newark Wednesday after they were told a baby was in a car.

Police say they found the baby buckled into his car seat.

After what police describe as a "lengthy search" officers managed to locate the mother, who had been sitting under a tree when she received a phone call. Police say the mom, Abbie Arms, says she became distracted and left the area without her son after learning about a fight that was happening nearby.

Police say the baby was taken to a nearby hospital for observation and is now in the custody of the Division of Family Services.

Arms now faces the charge of endangering the welfare of a child.
