Temple Football Player Will Sit Out After Arrest

PHILADELPHIA -

Willingboro, New Jersey native Kamal Johnson, the Temple football player arrested on kidnapping and other charges, will not be allowed to practice or play with the team, the university announced Monday.

In a statement, Temple University says Johnson was charged with criminal offenses involving another student.

"Considering all of the circumstances, we deem it in the best interests of everyone involved that Mr. Johnson should not practice or compete with the football team until this situation is resolved," a statement issued Monday said.

The university says his status as a student and his scholarship status have not changed.

"When the charges are resolved or if circumstances otherwise change, the University will consider the matter further," the statement read.

Police say Johnson turned himself in over the weekend in connection to an incident that occurred at his girlfriend's North Philadelphia apartment.
