WILMINGTON, Del. -

Police in Wilmington are searching for a gunman who they say opened fire at a group of people who were just five feet away from a small child.

The incident happened Sept. 26 on the 400 block of East Ninth Street.

Police released surveillance video Thursday that shows two groups of people meeting at an intersection and talking.

As the groups begin to walk away from one another, police say the gunman, who is wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, reaches into his waist band and pulls out the firearm.

The gunman is then seen on the video firing shots less than five feet from the child.

An older woman can be seen reaching down from her front steps to pull the child to safety.

Police say the gunman took off in an unknown direction.
