Ride For Heroes

Posted: Updated:
BENSALEM, Pa. -

More than 300-bikers packed the Bensalem Police Department parking lot Saturday.

Their bikes rumbling and revving.

All  of them like Wayne Faust ready to roll out  for the 65-mile, 6th annual "Bucks County Ride for Heroes."

"Police officers demand respect," said Wayne Faust while on his motorcycle. "We're out here  giving them respect now."

"We're  just helping out the heroes that supported us," said participant Clint Maile.

"They're out here putting their lives on the line for us," explained Linda Norman. "It's a great opportunity to give back. It really is."

The ride through Bucks county isn't just for fun, it's about helping to the fund education for children of fallen officers.

The annual ride has helped to  raise $630,000  in scholarship money for children of law enforcement officers killed or permanently disabled in the line of duty.

At this time there are six Bucks County teens eligible for scholarship money.

Detective Chris Jones' son is in college now and is one of the teens receiving scholarship money.

The former Middletown detective was killed during a traffic stop in 2009 by a convicted drunk driver.

Harry McCann's story helps to bring the Ride for Heroes into focus.

His father was a former Philadelphia Police Officer permanently disabled in the line of duty.

He received money from a smiler organization, the Philadelphia Police Department's Hero Thrill Show.

"I can say this with no uncertainty that if that wasn't available I doubt if I'd  be able to go to college," said McCann.
