Fire and hazardous materials crews have given the all-clear after responding to an incident at a Philadelphia Prison System facility in the Northeast.
A community alert issued around 1:30 p.m. said a suspicious package prompted the hazmat response to the Alternative and Special Detention (ASD), located on State Road.
But FOX 29 News learned that it was an unknown powdery substance in the mailroom just outside the prison. People that came into contact with the substance were quarantined, but there were no reports of injuries or evacuations.
The Philadelphia Fire Department investigated at the scene, and prison officials said normal operations were continuing at all other prison facilities.
Then, around 3 p.m. came word that the incident had been investigated and cleared.
It was a gloomy Sunday as the whole area remain socked in with low clouds & fog, drizzle and scattered showers.
The weather remains unsettled through most of the work week. The difference is that it will really warm up -- temperatures soar into the 80s by Tuesday. That mild and humid air mass will fuel afternoon thunderstorms.
By Thursday a cold front moves by bringing more rain. It will also bring drier and cooler weather by Friday as we finally clear out.
