A group of seven people was charged Wednesday in a drug distribution case where investigators say they tried to conceal kilos of heroin in fruit and vegetable cans that were transported from Texas to Philadelphia.
United States Attorney Zane David Memeger announced the charges Wednesday of seven men from Philadelphia and San Antonio, Texas.
According to an indictment, couriers transported 7.6 kilograms of heroin in 12 sealed cans with Mexican food labels on them from San Antonio to a home on the 6600 block of Sylvester Street in Philadelphia.
The Texas to Pennsylvania trip took place over a three-day period in September.
Three men were waiting for the couriers in Philadelphia, according to investigators.
Memeger says the shipment was seized on September 18 in Nashville, Tennessee.
The group faces various drug conspiracy charges.
