Federal agents prevent what could have been a devastating attack in New York City.
Authorities arrested 21-year-old Quazi Nafis after he tried to blow up the Federal Reserve building.
The FBI gave Nafis the inert bomb as part of a sting operation.
They were hoping to get more information on other potential terrorists hiding out in the United States.
"They did not want this case to break out in the open the way it did because they wanted to get more information out of him as to other possible al-Qaida operatives in the United States," said Congressman Peter King (R-N.Y.), chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee.
Nafis is described as a lone wolf with some connections to al-Qaida, but there's no indication he received any training or guidance from a terrorist group. He's charged with attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction, and attempting to provide material support for al-Qaida.
Quazi has already had his first appearance in federal court.
