Thieves Pretending To Be Repairmen Target Upper Chichester Homes

Posted: Updated:
UPPER CHICHESTER TOWNSHIP, Pa. -

Police in Upper Chichester are warning people to be on alert after thieves posing as repairmen have targeted two seniors.

One of the victims, Betty McKnight, tells Fox 29's Lauren Cohn she was lured outside of her home Wednesday afternoon on the 500 block of Bethel Street by several men who claimed they wanted to fix her driveway.

She says they took her in the back of her garage where they kept her occupied while another man went into her home and stole her jewelry.

McNight says after the men left she had realized what happened and called police.

What she didn't know is that an hour earlier, a similar attempt occurred nearby on the 600 block of Ruth Avenue.

In that incident, the homeowner says a man in a blue truck pulled into her driveway and tried to convince her the foundation was sinking.

The woman, who asked we not use her first name, refused to leave her home even when the man kept insisting.

She says the man finally left and that's when she dialed 9-1-1.

So far, police tell Fox 29 they don't know if the two incidents are related. Officers have since issue an alert to area business.

If you see anything suspicious, you're asked to call police.
