Family devastated after learning woman was cremated, not buried

DETROIT (WJBK) - A Fox 2 follow up regarding urns left at a funeral home that went out of business. A family saw our story last week and discovered a loved one's remains were cremated, not buried.

Sara Perry's loved ones have been going to a cemetery for ten years now, visiting what they believed to be her grave. Now, they're learning her remains were never buried.
Perry was Paulette Kincaid's sister. She died in 2002. Perry's family trusted Paradise Chapel Funeral Home on McDougal to handle the final arrangements. Perry was supposed to be buried at Gerhsemene Cemetery on Detroit's east side. But, that never happened. She was cremated instead, unbeknownst to the family. Those cremated remains along with 25 others were discovered in the now abandoned building that used to house Paradise Chapel. The building's new owner discovered the remains last week stuffed in a cabinet and asked Fox 2 to help him get in touch with loved ones. Sara's name was one of them.
More families are now coming forward with the same story. They all claim they paid for burials, not cremations. The state revoked the funeral home's license in 2006. No one's come forward to explain how this happened but Sara Perry's loved ones are determined to get answers.
