SEPTA announced Sunday it will suspend all services at the end of the Sunday service schedule as Hurricane Sandy makes its way closer to the area.

SEPTA says the shutdown will start at 12:30 a.m.

The service suspension includes all of SEPTA modes of transportation, from Regional Rail to the Market-Frankfrod and Broad Street lines.

"Suspending our service is the face of an unprecedented storm is in the best interest of the safety of our customers and employees," SEPTA General Manager Joseph M. Casey said in a statement.

"This will also protect our vehicles and infrastructure from damage and allow us to return to serve as soon as possible."

According to SEPTA, all service is expected to remain suspended through Monday.

SEPTA says it will monitor the storm and prepare its system to resume service once conditions allow.
