Hurricane Sandy Sets New Low-Pressure Record For This Region

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

The pressure at the center of Hurricane Sandy tied a record for a storm north of Cape Hatteras, N.C., on Monday morning, then it broke the record later in the morning.

The barometric pressure at the storm's middle reached 940 millibars, as of the 2 p.m. update from the National Hurricane Center. That was down three from the 11 a.m. update, and three more from where it was at 8 a.m.

The storm's outer rain bands continue to pound our area. They're merging with a cold front to our west to produce snow over higher elevations in the central portions of the mid-Atlantic region.
