Hurricane Sandy Landfall Imminent Between Cape May, Atlantic City

Hurricane Sandy is closing in on the New Jersey coast and should make landfall right around 6 p.m., FOX 29 Chief Meteorologist Scott Williams said.

According to the National Hurricane Center, the storm was just 30 miles east-southeast of Cape May at 5 p.m. and 40 miles south of Atlantic City, and it's still racing toward the coast at 28 mph with 90 mph winds.

"That puts landfall right around 6 p.m., right around when the sun sets. So, things will get dark, and of course those winds will continue to pick up."

The core of the intense rain bands and the wind continue to push toward the Cape May area. You're actually getting a little bit of a break from the rain in Atlantic City as the heavier rain as been displaced to the south and west of that center of circulation.

Williams said earlier that the increased pace of the storm could be "a little bit of a mixed blessing" because the speed would move the storm inland before that astronomical high tide around 8 p.m.

"So, a little bit of good news, if there is any out of this circumstance," Williams said.

The National Hurricane Center predicts storm surge will be 4 to 8 feet at the New Jersey coast, although surge-related flooding depends on the relative timing of the surge and the tidal cycle and can vary greatly over short distances.

An armed deli robbery is caught on camera. Two brazen gunmen held up the store owner with the man's kids right nearby. It's scary enough having armed gunmen storm your business.
