OCEAN CITY, N.J. -
Ocean City remains under a State of Emergency one day after Sandy slammed into the Jersey Shore.
As of Tuesday, 9 p.m., The Ocean City Office of Emergency Management said many roadways were flooded or covered with large amounts of sand and debris.
Emergency officials also reported numerous downed wires.
At this point, access to the island remains restricted and emergency officials urged anyone on the island to be "extremely cautious of any downed wires."
While the devastation is significant, the Ocean City Office of Emergency Management says they have made some progress.
Earlier Tuesday, a sanitary sewer pump in the north end of the island that had failed was repaired.
Thus far, emergency officials say there haven't been any issues with the drinking water in Ocean City.
City staff spent much of Tuesday removing debris and unclogging storm drains and outfall pipes.
Ocean City schools remain closed through Wednesday.
