Trees Down, Power Still Out in Bucks County

Posted: Updated:
NEW BRITAIN TWP., Pa. -

It's been a rough week for Heather DiSandro and her three children ever since an 80-foot tree came down during Hurricane Sandy Monday night.

"A mess. They missed school,  still didn't have school today. They canceled Halloween," DiSandro told Fox 29.

With a three-month-old baby and two young sons, Heather has had her hands full. No power means lots of problems and lots of inconvenience.

"We have well water so we can't pump water, flush the toilet, can't take a shower, the electric's off... So no heat," she explained.

"There's nothing we can do about it. It's God's will," said Marge Kilroy, who  lives right next door. The downed tree drove her and her son, Bill, from their home on Limekiln Pike. With the power out, they stayed with relatives.

"It was so cold in the house we had to go up to my daughters, we lost some of our meats," she said.

"It's been agony, it's been scary, throwing out a lot of food. Staying at my sister's keeping warm," Bill Kilroy said.

Trees are down all over this area of Bucks County, from Hilltown Township to New Britain and beyond. Local stores like Wawa and Wendy's have no power either, so there are no quick fixes for days without power.

"It's miserable," one neighbor without power told Fox 29.

There are also no quick answers for when the tree will be removed that's blocking the roadway for DiSandro.

"We haven't heard a word. I called 9-1-1, the police came by twice and haven't been back since," Di Sandro said. "At least the tree didn't fall on the house, so we can't complain too much."

Late Thursday, the Kilroys and DiSandros finally got their power back and moved back into their homes. Electricity remains out for hundreds of other homeowners here in Bucks County.
