LBI Residents Still Waiting To See Homes

Posted: Updated:
LONG BEACH ISLAND, N.J. -

It could be some time before the people who live and own homes in Long Beach Island can even see the damage to their homes.

FOX 29's Claudia Gomez was escorted by a National Guard unit to LBI Thursday to see the damage first hand.

Officials say the situation is just too dangerous on the southern part of the island and our FOX 29 crew wasn't able to go anywhere without the escort for safety reasons.

Up and down the beach, boats that weigh thousands of pounds could be seen scattered around - some displaced at least a block from any body of water.

Inside a local real estate office on the boulevard, the water line could be seen from what appeared to be three different tides.

As bad as it is, locals who stayed during the storm tell FOX 29 it's even worse farther south.

You can watch the report in the video above.
