NJ Residents Begin Process Of Applying For Federal Aid

After sorting through the damages left from Superstorm Sandy, many New Jersey residents have begun the process of applying for financial aid.

Kelly Burkhardt and Rob Massimino of Ocean City are just two of the many people who can now apply for federal aid.

The two say there wasn't much left from their ground floor apartment in Ocean City, where at least three feet of water filled their home.

Massimino tells FOX 29's Claudia Gomez there was enough water to float their refrigerator.

Burkhardt says they were approved for what is called transitional housing so that they can stay in a hotel.

Now that the couple has a temporary place to stay, FEMA will help them to get something more permanent.

Staffers at a Disaster Recovery Center tell FOX 29 they will walk storm victims through the process to help them find out exactly what's covered.

FEMA says it is ready to help you in the aftermath of Sandy.
