CHICAGO (Associated Press) -

Ben Averkamp scored 15 points and added nine rebounds Friday night for Loyola of Chicago and the Ramblers went on to defeat visiting Toledo 62-50 in the season opener for both squads.

Averkamp's two made free throws at the 19:18 mark in the second half gave him 1,000 career points at Loyola of Chicago.

Joe Crisman added 10 points and four rebounds while Jordan Hicks had nine points and six rebounds. Hicks' dunk with 4:46 to play gave the Ramblers their biggest lead of the night at 62-40, but a 3-point basket by Toledo's A.J. Matthew capped a 10-0 run by the Rockets and cut the lead to 12 at 62-50 with 34 seconds to go.

After a timeout by Loyola, the Ramblers held the ball and the final seconds ticked off the clock to seal a win for the Ramblers.
