ATLANTIC COUNTY, N.J. -

We're learning more about the history of a school bus that veered off the Garden State Parkway Monday afternoon.

The bus, packed full of more than 30 students, hit at tree in Egg Harbor, sending the students and a driver to local hospitals with minor injuries.

FOX 29's Bruce Gordan went through the safety records for the school bus that crashed.

FOX 29 has confirmed with New Jersey's Motor Vehicle Commission that the bus, number 20057, failed an inspection on October 18 for having bald tires.

A MVC spokeswoman says the tires were replaced that day and several other minor problems were also fixed.

The bus was then allowed to return to service.

The October inspection report is part of a state police probe into the accident. Police say it's too early to confirm or reject a student's claim that a detached wheel assembly may have caused the bus to veer out of control.

New Jersey state law requires that school buses be equipped with seatbelts.

The bus involved in the accident had them, but there's no rule how seatbelt use is to be enforced.
