PHILADELPHIA -

The Philadelphia Police officer caught on camera striking a woman during the city's Puerto Rican Day parade is expected to be charged with simple assault, sources tell FOX 29.

Jonathan Josey was dismissed from the department in October after being placed on leave.

Video posted to YouTube shows the former police official striking Aida Guzman.

Shortly after news broke that Josey was expected to be charged, Guzman and her attorney spoke to reporters and said they feel the former Philadelphia Police lieutenant should be charged with a more serious offense, as opposed to simple assault.

Guzman, who suffered a bruised lip during the incident, stood by her attorney, Enrique Latoison Wednesday night.

"My client at this point has to begin to try to put her life back together," Latoison said.

Guzman says she plans to attend every court hearing.

Josey worked with the department's Highway Patrol.

The charges are expected to be announced Thursday.

It was a gloomy Sunday as the whole area remain socked in with low clouds & fog, drizzle and scattered showers.

The weather remains unsettled through most of the work week. The difference is that it will really warm up -- temperatures soar into the 80s by Tuesday.  That mild and humid air mass will fuel afternoon thunderstorms.

By Thursday a cold front moves by bringing more rain.  It will also bring drier and cooler weather by Friday as we finally clear out.
