MANKATO, Minn. (KMSP) -

A Minnesota State University-Mankato student was attacked at knifepoint by another student Wednesday night in a library bathroom.

The attack was reported around 7:15 p.m. inside MSU's Memorial Library. Investigators still are not sure what led to the attack in the men's bathroom on the third floor.

According to police, the student was able to defend himself and escape. He was taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Other students at the library during the assault were able to detain 19-year-old Kevin Renquist, of Bloomington, until police arrived. He is currently behind bars.

Charges of second-degree assault and terroristic threats are being considered by the Blue Earth County Prosecutor, and could come down as soon as Friday morning.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Department of Public Safety at 507-387-8780.
