Investigators say four to five students at Radnor High School are under investigation for their alleged roles in using the Internet to pass around cellphone video of two classmates reportedly engaged in a sex act.
"There's pictures, there's possibly videos. We have yet to determine specifically how much information the smart phone contained," said Lt. Christopher Flanagan of the Radnor Police Department.
Sources say a 16-year-old female student videotaped the sex act with another teenager on a cellphone, that was then stolen. There are allegations the video was distributed to other students.
"We're also trying to investigate what information if any was decimated out to the Radnor Township school via Internet, social media, phone, texting," Flanagan explained.
Investigators used search warrants to seize and examine the cellphones and computers of the students involved, looking for the video and any other evidence of the teenage scheme. An expert will then examine the phones.
"We're not a 100 percent sure as to how much got out or even if any got out," he said.
School officials refused to say if any disciplinary action has been taken yet.
"Due to state and federal confidentiality provisions, we are not able to release any further comment at this time," said School District spokesman Michael Petitti.
Reports of the high school video posting caught some on the Main Line by surprise. Several people said kids don't realize just how much trouble they can get in using their phones and the Internet.
"Kids being kids, that's what happens, some kids gonna' do different things than others unfortunately made the wrong decisions," said John Bruce. "They're young kids, but what are you going to do?"
"You have to be smart with things. You can't do stuff like that and not expect other people to see it," said Jackie McLeod.
Police say they hope to gather all of the evidence and present it to the Delaware County District Attorney's office sometime Friday. That office has experts on cyber crimes and Internet child pornography. It could involve several felonies.
Police are asking any student with concerns to tell a teacher or guidance counselor.
Police do not know how widespread this is at this time and they say there could be more than one victim.
