A woman was arrested Thursday night after she breached a secure area at Sky Harbor Airport.
About 10 p.m., the driver of a 1997 Saturn rammed the airport's north/east gate and gained access to the active runway, Phoenix Police Sgt. Trent Crump said.
As the driver continued onto the runway, a Phoenix airport police officer was able to perform a PIT maneuver, and the vehicle was stopped in a matter of minutes.
When officers detained the female driver, they noticed a small child was in the vehicle.
Phoenix firefighters checked them both for injuries and found none -- although the woman did show signs of impairment.
"We are not aware of any inbound or outbound flights being put in danger as a result of the driver's actions, however, airport operations were disrupted for about 15 minutes for aircraft safety," stated Crump.
There is no information on the woman's motive. Her name is not yet available.
She is facing charges including criminal damage and criminal trespassing.
